Privacy Policy
The short version: Oddly has no accounts, no logins, no newsletters and no forms, and sets no cookies of its own. The advertising is the only thing on the page that involves anyone else.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. There is nothing here to sign up for, log into or fill in, so we never ask for your name, your email address, or anything else. We do keep a count of how many times each article has been read — one number per article, which says nothing at all about who did the reading.
How the language is chosen
The language you land in is picked from the Accept-Language header your browser already sends with every request. Nothing is stored to remember it, which is why switching language changes the address in the bar rather than setting anything on your machine.
Cookies and advertising
Oddly sets no cookies of its own.
Advertising is a different matter. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or to other sites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and to other sites on the internet.
Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked first, by Google’s consent tool, before ads may use cookies or personal data. You can change your choice at any time with “Privacy and cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
We do not choose those ads, we do not see who they are shown to, and we have no control over what the advertising vendor collects or does with it. That part of the page belongs to them, not to us.
What your browser keeps
If you change the display settings — text size, light or dark view, colour or monochrome — that choice is saved in your own browser, in local storage rather than a cookie. It stays on your device, it is never sent to us, and clearing your browsing data removes it. Nothing else is stored on your machine by us.
The games
The games in the Games section run entirely in your browser. They save nothing at all — no scores, no progress, no cookies and no browser storage — and they send nothing to us. Reload the page and the game starts from the beginning.
Share links and the RSS feed
The share links under each article are ordinary links. The page loads no script, button or pixel from WhatsApp, X, Facebook or anyone else, so nothing is sent to them while you read. If you click one, your browser opens that service with the article’s address and title, and from then on its own privacy policy applies. Copy link puts the address on your clipboard and sends nothing.
The RSS feed lists new articles for feed readers. We store nothing about who reads it; a feed reader’s request is logged like any other visit.
Turning personalised ads off
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and out of other vendors' advertising cookies at aboutads.info. How Google uses information from sites that use its services is described on Google's partner sites page.
Server logs
Our web host keeps ordinary access logs — an IP address, a browser name, the page requested, the time. Every web server on the internet does this. We use them only to keep the site running, and we do not combine them with anything else.
Children
Oddly is written to be family-friendly, but it is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify you, because there is no mailing list.
