Privacy Policy

The short version: Oddly has no accounts, no logins, no newsletters and no forms, and sets no cookies of its own. The advertising is the only thing on the page that involves anyone else.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. There is nothing here to sign up for, log into or fill in, so we never ask for your name, your email address, or anything else. We do keep a count of how many times each article has been read — one number per article, which says nothing at all about who did the reading.

How the language is chosen

The language you land in is picked from the Accept-Language header your browser already sends with every request. Nothing is stored to remember it, which is why switching language changes the address in the bar rather than setting anything on your machine.

Cookies and advertising

Oddly sets no cookies of its own.

Advertising is a different matter. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or to other sites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and to other sites on the internet.

Turning personalised ads off

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and out of other vendors' advertising cookies at aboutads.info. How Google uses information from sites that use its services is described on Google's partner sites page.

Server logs

Our web host keeps ordinary access logs — an IP address, a browser name, the page requested, the time. Every web server on the internet does this. We use them only to keep the site running, and we do not combine them with anything else.

Children

Oddly is written to be family-friendly, but it is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify you, because there is no mailing list.
